Following your scale and clean your dentist may recommend a concentrated fluoride application. Fluoride is a natural mineral found in your intake of foods and water. Sufficient consumption helps strengthen teeth by making the tooth more resistant to bacterial acid attacks. However, inadequate consumption increases the risk of dental cavities from developing.
To prevent cavities and decays from developing, fluoride addresses the “at-risk” teeth that are prone to develop cavities by hardening the outer surface of the tooth (enamel) to form a protection layer.
At 360° Dental Care we offer two treatment types -foam or gel fluoride application. This foam fluoride treatment is paired with a disposable tray and then placed in the mouth and is available for children for easy application. This solution is left in the mouth for 1-4 minutes and spat out (without rinsing).
It is important you do not eat or drink any food for 30 minutes post treatment to allow the fluoride to penetrate the teeth and to avoid drinking hot liquids or consuming sticky snacks for 2 hours. This will ensure the fluoride can form its protective layer over the tooth. As fluoride is an immediate preventative procedure, it is recommended you receive booster applications for higher preventative measures every six months.
